Are you an aspiring or qualified Habilitation Specialist willing to undertake training?
Wandsworth Sensory Support Team supports children and young people with sensory impairment based in Wandsworth. As a Trainee / Qualified Habilitation Specialist, you will be part of a team of professionals offering direct support to children and young people with sensory impairment. The team provides extensive school and home visiting services, emotional support and parent guidance, after school clubs, holiday play schemes and parent education programmes.

About the role
In this role, initially you can be a Qualified Habilitation Specialist or a Trainee undertaking the specialist qualification in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight Graduate Diploma. You will have the opportunity to grow your skills and expertise, undertaking the training mentioned above to become a Habilitation Specialist, while supporting Wandsworth Sensory Support Team to maximise children and young people's potential for independence.
Collaboration: You will be working as part of a highly experienced team committed to providing high quality support to the children and young people across the borough.
Flexibility: The support you provide includes visiting children and young people in their school or home environment as well as routes in between school, home or other areas.
Professional Development: You are passionate about transforming young peoples’ lives, promoting independence and have a desire to develop your career within Special Educational Needs.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- You have proven experience as Habilitation Specialist OR willing to undertake the specialist training for which you will need to have qualifications and / or experience suitable for entry to the Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (CYP) Graduate Diploma (UCL).
- Good understanding of the required quality standards for Habilitation.
- Ability to organise and manage a caseload with minimal supervision and the ability to work on own initiative and make decisions.
- Advocate on behalf of individuals and have an understanding of the needs of vulnerable people.
- Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with children, young people their families and professionals.
- Experience working with children with vision impairment (highly desirable).
