Estate services Officers in Wandsworth Borough are a role in providing core services on and around the council managed blocks and estates. The successful candidate will be a crucial interface between residents and other council and external services; therefore, it is important that the successful candidate will be a strong communicator, be able to remain calm under pressure and have a natural flair for problem solving. The role of an estate services officer will provide candidates with an important role within the communities it serves where no two days are the same, some of the duties include (but are not limited to) responding to emergency situations such as lift trappings, burst pipes and monitoring antisocial behaviour and noise nuisance on the estates, through to the monitoring of repairs and cleaning contractors. You may also need to respond to complaints of stray dogs, which may need to be transported to safety or third-party services and, therefore you will only be required to deal with dogs that are already tethered. A driving licence is essential. Due to the nature of this role candidates will be excellent communicators, enjoy lone working and have strong problem-solving skills.
Each shift you will ideally work with a minimum of 6 other officers who operate in different sections of the Borough.
There will be a period of training where you will be mentored by experienced staff and once competent will be expected to work alone. Where emergencies are encountered you will be joined by other officers from adjoining areas so will not be expected to deal as individuals.
You will also not be expected to ‘remove ‘any Anti-Social Behaviour offenders from our estates, as you have no power to do so, just to use your communication skills at whichever situation confronts you.
Successful Candidates will be entitled to 40 days annual leave including bank holidays per year. Due to the nature of the role, there is no scope for home working and the 36-hour week is on a rota which includes early shift (0700-1500) and late shift (1500-2300.) You can expect to work 3 weekends in 5. There is free parking at our offices for your private vehicle and a work vehicle is provided for daily duties. Uniform and PPE is also supplied. You will be equipped with a smart phone and a two-way radio connected to the Wandsworth Joint Control Centre.
